What Would You Pay For A Text Message Advertisement?

I was at a fundraiser last week- some really big name people were there. Some of them were founders of these companies: Honest Tea, Living Social, Summit Series- very very big names. Because it was a fundraiser, there was a part of the night where people started texting to pledge certain amounts to the non-profit.

Every time someone texted the amount, everyone (about 900 people) could see who it was from and whatever the message was. It was basically advertising, and it was brilliant. In the beginning, only a few people texted. Those guys were really smart because everyone was focused on the screen so those early texts got a lot of exposure. Once all the hoopla was over, and once people started figuring out that it was a good ad spend, more and more people did it and less and less people paid attention.

I pledged but had I been the first one, I would have gotten several thousands worth of exposure because everyone there would have wondered what TBF is. And because TBF’s mission is so aligned with the non-profit’s mission, many people would have went to look at the site to see how to get involved. After all, we’re talking about successful entrepreneurs who were mentoring teens.

For the right business and the right message, it was very worth it.

What would you have paid to get a text ad in front of 900 of some of the most successful entrepreneurs in your local area? $100? $500?
