You can't really "learn" web DESIGN. It's all down to your creativity and basically what you create. With programming, you learn it and use it. With design, it can be different every time, more or less. Just keep trying to design websites, for a while, you won't come up with anything someone would want for a website, but once you get used to how the layouts should be done, then you'll start coming up with good ideas.
And stay away from big RSS icons, shiny buttons with gradients.. web 2.0 sucks and hardly gives you anything to show off with as a designer. INNOVATE. ![]() |

You can learn design principles like color theory, whitespace, the grid system, etc. As far as creativity, your style will show itself over time. That's the cool think about art. It kind of just extends itself as part of you if you let it.
I have a couple of O'Riely reference books on CSS, HTML, Javascript, etc. but as far as coding goes, it's really a hands-on type of thing. Grab a free template and your favorite image editor and have at it! Websites are the best place to learn web design, sorry buddeh. @Sami,
Yeah there's two things: 1) the design aspect, and 2) the actual programming. The second one is very easy and you could do it online. It's free and people can always tell you something. You could get a book for that but it'll be more expensive. If you really want to look into that, look at Sitepoint.com. They have some books in print. I also agree with what others are saying about the design. Best thing to do is "flip" though magazines, websites, and start bookmarking the ones you like. Ask the person who created what their inspiration was, how they got started and if they have resources for you to go look into. |
