what are all of the steps languages etc that i need to create a very professional looking blog with a bar up top kind of like this site. i am proficient in both inkscape and gimp so i could design it but i don't know where to go from there to create all of the buttons etc. i need to know how to code it all of the buttons links and uploading the stuff to a web server and linking a domain name to the web host. could you guys help me out with some tutorials that you know of. if i will promise 3 spots for the 3 first people to advertise on my blog when i get it up in awhile.

I now think that i should go to wordpress and use some free webhosting without ads and buy a domain name but how do you link a domain name bought from one provider with the web hosting of another provider.

could you guy recommend some ad free and free web host service?

i heard wordpress possibilities are endless

Never use free hosting, even if its ad free.

I agree that you should buy a domain and some hostings as apposed to free hosting. I would really reccomend Byethost's Premium Package. You can pay monthly or annually and you get a massive ammount of space and bandwith PLUS a free domain for as long as you pay for the hosting. It's a great site and you can install Wordpress instantly via the cPanel they give you with the hosting.

Once you have designed a site you need to slice it up and then get it coded. You can do it manually but it takes forever and its not recommended. Using a program like photoshop will automate it mostly. All you have to do is tell it where to slice. If you dont have photoshop then there are people out there that will slice a design and code it for less then $20

It's very enticing to have an attractive blog template - but the truth about blogging is that 99% of your visitors will come for the content. The template is an element that will make them stay, but content is king.

If you are just starting out blogging, and have limited experience - I would recommend these services which will host it for you and are very easy to maintain:

http://www.wordpress.com - The leader in blogging platforms.
http://www.blogger.com - Google's free blog service, very respectable.

If you have the resources, want the extra customization and absolutely need to have a completely custom set-up, then there are many options available to you.

A good start is hosting and a domain name - try http://www.godaddy.com or another registrar for simple registrations.

Hosting is all about personal preference these days since there are 1 million and 1 providers.
