Thinking of a name...

I don't know if I need help thinking of an actual name, or if this is more of a question just regarding names in general.

I am outlining my business plan and was set on a name for my website/development business. However, after thinking it over I have concluded that this name - although unique, has nothing to do with design or the web in general. I am not sure if this is good or bad. A lot of designers use their names, or a random name for their website (maybe not totally random).

What are your opinions? Go with what I like, what I've always wanted, or maybe go for something a little more normal... such as 'Buffalo Web Design, or WNY Web Design', etc....

Minus the Pie Media has nothing to do with web, but that didn't hinder how many clients I got. Go for a brand. You're not going to be using SEO heavily to promote your web design business (wayyy too much competition) unless you're super-niche, so worry about something your clients can remember.

A brandable name is always better. The name 'Amazon' has nothing to do with what the company does. It's something that you can build up over time.

What is your guy's opinions on a one word name or a two word name? Right now, I have a word and a number. I have a reasoning behind the number as well, and it works with the business model.

As long as it's brandable, sounds good, numbers are great. One words are hard to come by so if you have a name that's not taken already, I would do that. A lot of companies have numbers in their names- 37Signals, 99Designs. It's easily recognizable. For 99Designs, they chose the number 99 because on average that's the number of different designs a contest would get.
