Default 5 Questions to Ask Yourself before Working from Home

This article was not written by me and I do not take any credit, whats-so-ever for this article.

I highly recommend you all read up on some of the blog entries on YoungBusinessOwner.com. You will find some excellent articles such as this article I have post, that can help you out when starting your new business.

Many people, especially young people, make the transition from working at a job to working from home only to find out that it isn’t for them. There are many things you must consider before deciding that entrepreneurship is for you. I have compiled five questions that go over a little bit of what it takes to work for yourself from home.

1. Are you good in all the areas it takes to run a business?
Considering the jobs that are available to most young entrepreneurs, you are only responsible for one general task or assignment. However, when it comes to running your own business, you must to able to accomplish everything yourself (well, you don’t have to, but I am going to assume we don’t have tons of capital to cover the costs of hiring people to do tasks that you should be capable of doing yourself). Everything from customer service to bookkeeping to sales, you must be able to do it all before considering working from home.

All I had to ask myself is whether I wanted to continue to sit in a cubicle 10 feet away from my ex-marine boss that was listening to everything I said.

1) Most importantly, is the scheme a con? Search for the company name and see what other people say about it. If it is a new and unheard of scheme it could be genuine, but it equally well might not be. If they just ask you to sign up and join in then you can probably do so safely, but just beware of what information you are giving away and be wary of installing any software. It could be something more than you bargained for?

2) Does it ask you for cash? I have to say at this point that one respectable affiliate directory that I know about that has loads of excellent merchants does require new signups to pay a small amount.

I suppose it is there way of preventing spammers signing up. But on the whole, unless I knew of the scheme already, I would be reluctant to part with any cash to join in with any home working scheme. Quite often the scheme is as simple as now you have paid me the money, you write to people saying you can offer them a job in return for paying you. Unlikely to work for anyone who is honest.

3) Does the scheme interest you? It can be fine signing up for surveys, but if you are not interested in seeing lots of seemingly pointless questions and ticking little boxes, then you probably will not last out. If you are signing up to sell mobiles, do you have one yourself? Can you talk about them and stay interested in them?

If the home working scheme does not interest you then you are unlikely to continue it for long enough to reap any real rewards. In the early days I signed up for surveys, found them boring and only got paid for one scheme. But other schemes do capture my interest and I work hard on them.

4) Are you technically minded enough? If you are getting into affiliate selling or want a go at blogging, but want to host your own blog for maximum profits, are you technically experienced enough to be able to find out how to download, install and look after everything? Downloading WordPress is easy and the installation is simple. But it is easy to get lost customising the theme. It can be great fun if you have the experience, but a great problem if you are really a technophobe.

5) Is it really for you, are you doing it for the right reasons? If you are panicking about paying loans off and struggling to pay the debts and think home working is the solution, maybe you should think again. Your time might be better spent speaking to the bank and a financial advisor.
