Default Stocks are down this decade

Saw a news article today on CNN. Since the year (and decade) is coming to an end, the news reporter mentioned how stocks for the majority rises by the end of a decade. However, from 2000-2010, stocks have actually gone down. So most likely you lost money if you have stocks you brought back in 2000. Another time when this have happened? The Great Depression during the 1930's. There were similar things that happened- collapse of the financial markets, double digit unemployment, etc. The silver lining in this? There has never been in history back to back decades where stocks were down. So guess that stocks will (probably) go up in the next 10 years if you brought now.
