Anyone else seen how fast the use of Bachelor's degrees have been declining? Just read a long forum thread about it. Seems like if you don't have a four year (BA or BS) degree then you can't get anything, but then if you get a Master's degree you are considered overqualified.
I'm wondering if I even should continue my college ideas... |

The world is definitely changing as we know it. The reason is because of outsourcing. You can get a degree is computer science but half of what that person does can be outsourced (and they'll do a better job because they're hungry for a chance to prove themselves). Other jobs like copywriting are in trouble as well.
I agree with Corey. It's all about the connections. That lands you a job nowadays. What are you studying j.chang? |

Key take-away: figure out how to build a business now, whether you go to college or not. Use that to help you gain confidence even if you don't get a job.
I agree with what the article said at the end: that some colleges are worth it and that even some majors are worth it. IT jobs are still very much in demand, especially in the DC area. That's because government spending have not stopped, and so contractors keep hiring computer programmers. If you can make a website, that can take you far. I still believe going to Havard, Yale, or one of those really top top top schools is worth it because of the connections you make there. Those connections can open doors for you later in life. |

I always considered college as a door opener. That being said, I'm involved with various other entities that will help me in the long run.

I feel that college didn't get me to where I am today. Yes, it did give me a start but not much of a start.
