I'm headed to university this September and I am more than excited. I am overjoyed, ecstatic. This is because I have one simple hope: People in university will be more mature, engaged, and genuinely interested than those in high school.
Am I right here? I'm going into business, and I've heard that some people who go into business simply aren't genuinely interested in business; they think they can become rich because that's what they've grown up with all their lives. I'm going into first year, and I've heard that some students just take it to be a "write-off" year; a year where they can party and let loose because they've finally shedded the protective coat of their parents. Finally, I'm going into university; I've read that people just don't change from high school. Please give me hope. Where have you found the most interesting people?

I'm also heading to university in September
What subject are you going to be studying?I'm hoping the people will be more mature etc. but I doubt it, I think that maybe all the people who were mature in school are now going on to the best unis, while the others didn't get in. They're also having to pay to study a subject, so probably are genuinely interested in it. I guess your uni will have societies you can join? That was going to be the main place I was looking to find new friends and stuff, and I suppose in your accommodation there will be lots of people so you're going to find some people who have a similar mindset. Well that's my hope anyway. Or you could just stay on Teen Business Forum, personally I'm a very interesting person :P |

Hey, I'd say that you'll be fine, I think you'll be able to meet lot's of cool new people, besides, since when did idiots go to Uni? If you're into business, then you should definitely look out for an entrepreneur society. There you can meet loads of like minded individuals.

Really depends where you go and what subject you picked.
I picked Arts & Architecture 2 years ago and am now going to the 3th year. Those people have been really mature and social, met lots of other teen entrepreneurs I didn't expect being. The people I met from other departments such as ICT and Healthcare have been dissapointing me, many of them are childish b!tchy party-animals. I think that's because those departments are kind of the standard choice of many people because there's a big market for it in our country. There are so many annoying people in those departments because they're just there to get their certificate/diploma and not because they're passionate about the subject itself. (I'm not talking about everyone, just a lot of people). Find those passionate people and you'll be fine I guess. Except if you want to party more than getting good marks ![]() Those people often drop out after a month or 2 anyway... |

Yes, people pick business to get rich. And yes, people slack off because it's wayyy easier to do in college than in high school. But a few things:
1) Don't slack off. Take schoolwork seriously and try to do more than the bare minimum. You will get kicked out if your grades are low. 2) The people in university aren't adults. They're college kids. Some are so immature it's ridiculous. Know who you want to associate yourself with. |

There are plenty of student clubs for that, and tbh looking for the gems in the rough during your freshman year will be tough, but if you stay on your path, and consistently work on your projects you will find the right people, they just sort of gravitate towards it.
Remember its college, so even though your there to learn, have some fun too.

You can also connect with local like minded people by finding LinkedIN groups that are relevant to you. Give that a shot.
