For some reason today my main external hard drive decided to fail. It would be picked up by the computer but i couldnt access or format it. I tried to recover all the files form it before trying anything else but it wouldnt find anything. So ive just had to format it the long way and now it works again and now im running a file recovery on it which is saying its going to take 12 days to finish and that number keeps growing. And the problem is it probably wont find the main things i need off the harddrive. Most of the files on it were already backed up on another harddrive but i had started a new website which i hadnt had a chance to back up yet so if i cant get it back then thats about 10 hours worth of work gone. So hopefully this estimated time of completion is wrong and it only takes a few hours.
Does anyone have any stories of losing important files.

oh my! I sure don't want that happening to me D:
And yes I do have experience losing important files and the tragedy of redoing what you lost. it's just so frustrating and depressing (if you done a lot of work) and it's even more depressing to think about it. this includes formatting drives, photoshop crashes while you work on a design (old pc of mine), accidents so yea right now I have two backup external HDs - they are both Western Digital ones, what about yours? |

My internal hard drive starts buzzing sometimes and often disconnects. Meaning i can't even use the pc anymore then!
So i bought a external one i can dock on top of my pc, like on the xbox 360. i run my OS from there now (very fast SATA connection, so it runs smooth enough). It happened and still happens very often that when I need to play an important gaming league or when I have a school project i need to transfer to my laptop, it all stops working. Also when I have vacations it often keeps me busy for 2 days until it's fixed :S I know, I should get a new drive, but I guess I'm too lazy or don't feel like doing it ![]() |

I have 3 WD harddrives, 1 seagate and 1 buffalo network harddrive.
Today has been a horrible day for technology in my house. Ive had to restore my computer back to previous points 3 times today (almost had to reformat and lose more info) and for the last 1-2 hours my internet died and only let me access some australian servers and thats it. Ready to throw my laptop at the wall.
