Do you all notice about the SOPA/PIPA news yet?

Take a look at wikipedia, google, reddit and much other website - they all protest against SOPA/PIPA because if the bill passes, it will affect them.

I believe this is a massive news and will impact internet world.

Why big news? This will affect you the entrepreneur Internationally that own website or any business in the internet.

So what is your view?

I seen notices around everywhere. To be honest, I do not know anything about it. BUT.. you just gave me a great idea to put an article together to hear from other entrepreneurs how it will affect them. From that, we'll all learn something.

What Is SOPA?

Basically the entertainment industry wants to stop piracy/copyright infringement. However, the wording of the bill means that ANY website that directly infringes or appears to facilitate infringement can be taken down without warning or notification. One day you log in to your website, and it's gone.

Twitter, facebook, youtube, tumblr, etc. could all be shut down completely because they allow you to share links and upload images which could be copyrighted. Note, even if NOBODY had a copyrighted image, they COULD, so the entertainment industry can file an order to shut them down.

Smaller websites can be shut down in the same way. Comments sections alone basically qualify because you can post links there.

And after they shut you down, they can send you to jail. For YEARS.

I think there's a strong chance Congress will pass it because they are that stupid. These Hollywood media companies could pay out massive amounts of money to have people support them. Those old farts dont know what the bill could evolve into or how important social media is. Reading this months ago shot down my social network dream. Another reason for me to hate the government.

However these sites wouldn't have to completely shut down. Somebody would have to manually approve everything you post.

I doubt that google, youtube, facebook and any other big social media website can completely delete the piracy material from their site by their user.

I mean their is literally hundred of millions of pages or search results that they need to search for. Its like impossible. Heck, even this forum could shut down if there is a single link to any pirate page or upload pirate material- be it intentionally or not. Basically, the website owner is liable to all of the user/member activity. Break the law? ===> Jail

If these websites shut down(google, facebook etc), this will tremendously reduce the chance of internet entrepreneur to bright. Many entrepreneur rely on social media to promote their business. I mean networking and leveraging are important for entrepreneur. I believe in internet freedom and I believe there is a best solution to fight piracy. I'm not saying piracy is good. Its just too strict.

I think the only thing these politions should censor/shut up or shut down is themselves. What a petty distraction to the bigger picture of life yet they want to own and control every.damn.little.t.h.i.n.g. Overall I find it highly annoying, they should go back to sipping their tea and leave the internet alone. Those who find too hot should take a hike and cool off.
