Hey guys,
I'm thinking of putting together an article on the possible link between entrepreneurship and gaming. Here are some of my thoughts. Feel free to add yours. Some of the smartest people that I know were hardcore strategy gamers. They played games like Starcraft. A lot of them now are very good at executing tasks, strategies. A possible link? If you played real time strategy, you know that there are certain strategies but they sometimes change depending on the situation. Doesn't that sound familiar with building a business? The strategy might be a revenue model. But sometimes, things don't go always as planned and the entrepreneur needs to "pivot" to create a new strategy. |

As a gamer myself i'm very interested! On an unrelated note, talking about links with gaming, apparently people who are closest to the reaction times of jet pilots are professional gamers.

Ahem... There was a documentary on research that was done on a doctor who was ardent gamer- improved his reflexes and hand-eye co-ordination or something when operating. So it would seem gaming helps a little bit of everyone , its most definitly an interesting topic. PS: i love games too!

There was a really good video on ted.com about how gamers can save the world...
People always seem to try to correlate these things together. They do it in the online poker world as well. While I dont disagree with the similarities, I tend to think that people overstate their relevance. Am I being too vague? |

I've played RuneScape for years which got me into the art of buying for less, and selling for more. It's known as "merchanting" in the game. I also played L4D for about a year which involved a major use of teamwork and leadership skills.

As others have said games that need quick reactions can help in physical jobs and task, while the more technical games need alot more thinking behind what your doing aswell as plan B's.

Yeah I was recently playing an RTS game (Age of Empires 3, which I got for £0.10!) and to win most matches, preperation at the start of the match is crucial or you will lose, no way about it. :P

It are the gamers that try to get everything as cheap as possible.
Making investments in new hardware to perform better. They were my clients trying to convince me to do all work for free, "it will be good to put in your portfolio", they said. They're so influential to get things done by others. Also the relationship between gaming and internet & internet and entrepreneurship is small. It's some sort of audience with multiple shared interests etc. Gamers are also very confident with the social aspect of the games, it can be a hard world in there (lol), the better you are the more haters you get. Also that motivation of trying to be the best can be seen entrepreneurship. And indeed, we gamers train our brains in taking shortcuts in games and life. You could call it smart lazy. I guess there is so much more i can come up with, but this is it for now, hope it helps ![]() |
