Hey guys, I've not been active on TBF for a while, but now I'm back and more motivated to do business than ever! I wanted to open a threat to talk about The Young Apprentice show and in particular the next one, which will be in 2012, as I am just about to apply for the first interview stage.
For those of you that don't live in the UK: 'The Young Apprentice' is a wildly popular TV series in which 12 teenagers aged 16-17 have to complete a number of business tasks over 8 weeks in order to compete for a chance to win £25,000 (that must be used either for a business venture or for educational purposes). This is basically modeled on the original American TV show 'The Apprentice' with Donald Trump giving the chance to one person to come work for him; except in the young version the prize is money and the wealthy businessman of the show is Lord Alan Sugar. Lord Alan Sugar originally adapted the American version and in 2009 went on to create the 'Junior Apprentice' (now 'Young'). There have been two rounds of The Young Apprentice and 2012's will be the third. No offense to the Americans on this forum, but the American version seems completely planned out and everything is set up. I find the British version much more interesting and as a chance for a really valuable experience, even if the chances to win 25k are slim. Unfortunately applications are only open to UK residents, but I think it is an interesting topic to discuss for everyone. I found The Apprentice and Young Apprentice shows very inspiring and motivational. If you would like to watch them and you're outside of the UK try ---> this site <---. - So is anyone on TBF going to apply? - And if you were to apply what do you think you think makes you different from the other applicants? (i.e. running your own business, have unique business experiences, great leader... etc.) - What do you think of the past Apprentice shows? (if you have watched any) Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say! Last edited by Ginberry; 12-13-2011 at 03:57 PM.. |

To start off:
I am going to apply even though I am yet to truly start a business. I applied last year and was invited to the first stage of interviews, however, I did not take the chance and decided not to go for an the first interview. I somewhat regret my decision but not greatly. Someone I know also applied and did the first interview, he was one of the top choices from the candidates to go onto the next stage but did not make it. Knowing him, he has barely any business knowledge and small experience so I'm sure I would fair better than he did. When I see the interviews of this year's applicants I also think that I could present myself equally as well or better. So, the main traits and strengths that I feel make me unique from the other applicants are: - I've have a very cosmopolitan upbringing as I've extensively traveled around the world and lived in many places. I feel this has given me a global outlook on things and business in general. - Even though I have never started my own business, but I know a lot about how to run one as I have collected a lot of knowledge from various sources such as documentaries, books, television shows, and I have observed a few businesses closely. - I am 16 at the moment and I am studying for a Bachelor's degree in business studies at The Open University. - I have had some small business experience in the past with selling and creating products. For example, I have published several books and sold things at markets. - I invest a small sum of money in company stocks and have profited from that. - I am currently planning a business that I will start in January 2012. So that's what I think makes me stand out from the crowd. |

I think some of the kids on the show are absolute idiots, who are arrogant, yet incompetent. Usually there is at least one capable candidate. I happen to know the capable candidate from the 2011 series, no guesses who it it.
