Ok well I am going to university in a few weeks and I noticed the apple store was offering discounts on an apple mac air. It looks really nice and seems powerful enough for what I need it for.
However I am getting £1350 for the first term and it costs £800 with the discount I believe. They do offer financing but I am not sure if it would be worth getting it or getting a windows laptop which I can pay for in full. I am doing a web design course and with using macs at the uni I think it would be best if I did have a mac to use at home too. Please advise in what you think I should do.

If your using Macs at uni then it would be best to have a Mac. However there will be plenty of people on the course who won't have a Mac so the uni will have something in place for that. I wouldn't put yourself in money worries at uni tbh but it's always nice to have a Mac
.Are there any forums/groups on Facebook that are connected to your uni or course? Ask on there what computers people will be using. |

I agree, maybe I will get that on finance. As for social networks there is one called yougofurther. I shall ask on there but I feel I should have a mac for use at home.

I always say "get the right tools for the job", and there's no denying a Mac would be better than a regular laptop. But don't stretch your finances too much, you don't want other aspects of uni being ruined by not having the funds to do it - speaking from experience here. I bought a Mac just before uni, could I do anything in Freshers week? Not without worry and the odd call to my parents asking for more money....but I did like my Mac

Well I could use a windows laptop which I can get for like £200 and use it for web design. But I just wanted advice. I think now after reading all your comments that I should get a windows laptop to save money.

At my school they sell those macbooks at a discount. You can also get the discount on apple if you have a .edu mail adress I believe.
And in my opinion the white macbook screen pwns all others, as I've seen at the others at school, the Pro screen often gets a green hue when you're not directly in front of it. |
