"A resource-based economy would replace the need for the current monetary economy, which is "scarcity-oriented" or "scarcity-based". Fresco argues that the world is rich in natural resources and energy and that, with modern technology and judicious efficiency, the needs of the global population can be met with abundance, while at the same time removing the current limits of what is deemed possible because of notions of economic viability."

No, eliminating the need for any sort of bareting, currency, trading at all. It's all about using the environment fully, so you can live without anything else. Effectively what we all want in a futuristic world, similar to a post a short while ago about sustainable cities.
Go and search for "The Venus Project" - interesting stuff. |

It's not just about getting right of the use of currency. It's about using the environment to its full potential. Eventually we will use up resources on this planet, and if need be in the future, we will travel to other planets and use their resources, that's how our civilization works - unless we learn to live differently. Good things do come from the monetary system, but living in a world where that isn't needed, everything has been layed out so you don't have as much worries - all you need to do is live and enjoy yourself is what people want.
