I'm currently doing a study on the economist Thomas Malthus, and this is exactly what his theory was all about. Population is growing on a geometric progression, while food is being produced on an arithmetic progression. In other words, food may eventually fail to meet the huge and increasing population growth.
Maybe this is a calling for us entrepreneurs to do something. :P |

I heard this theory before. And yes, it IS scary. It's not really talked about now because it's not affecting the current generation. But it will be affecting you and I. I definitely think this is a call for people like you and I to tackle these problems when we get older. One of the comment there was that "they forgot to add that people die". That may be true but the rate of growth well surpasses that. I really think the only solution is entrepreneurship. It can't entrepreneurs in developed countries creating solutions for other countries. I think it will come from within those countries, where someone solves a problem within their community. That way, it'll be more sustainable.

Well what do you think the primary problem is/will be; the overpopulation in under-developed countries, where unfortunately, the population there seems to be unable to control their "reproducing" habits, or, the lack of commodities that will eventually come to be?
Should we be looking at ways to educate and control population surges or develope a "magic" food that will be self sustainable and able to feed everybody in the world?

People might think I'm crazy but this is what I believe. I think the earth will see some kind of major catastrophe to the population by the year 2050. Everything is getting worse as the decades go on.

@Alscott,
That's a legitimate concern given things like global warming and all the hurricanes that's been happening. @Erik, I think people are doing the education right now. Probably more of that is better. But it's culture also. Some cultures say to have many kids as possible. It's similar to what people are saying will happen in Europe. Right now, the the native Europeans are having something like 1.2 kids/family. That's not enough to sustain the culture. So, Europeans are like "dying" out. |

Global warming right now isn't actually causing as much damage as previously thought. And for all we know, if global warming got worse, it could be something that was MEANT to happen. As over the years that the Earth has existed, it has went through various changes without man pushing it.
