Just curious, anyone play WoW?

I played at least 16hours a day back in the day but over the last year and a half i only play casually sometimes. But today is the release of the next expansion which is released 8 minutes ago (4 minutes late) and now im trying to log in and its crashed all their servers. They have taken down their website and are just running the basic version of it for account management and using all their resources just to allow people to log into the game. Gotta love playing the worlds biggest online game during expansion day. I started to try and login 40minutes ago and there was a 20minute wait to log in and then i got on at 12.01am server time which should have been the new expansion but it was late so a few minutes later a message comes up to log out and back in and it will be the expansion and it has just crashed everything.

So who is with me to try and make a game as popular as this =)

Haha yeah... back in 2008 it cost around $140,000 to run the servers daily.

I used to play it yeah, personally they have ruined the game because they are too greedy with money.

You should check out Star Wars: The Old Republic, a serious competitor to WoW.

Nope, but data collected leads to that estimation!

I personally find it scary how much the game makes. Not including asian players, but US & EU players make over 12,000,000.

In the UK it costs 8.99/month to play the game, using that price because theres a few different currencies involved...

12,000,000 x 8.99 , every month.

I played a few years back and stopped because I often got bored and didn't want to pay so much.

A week ago I recieved a mail from them that I could play 7 days for free because I didn't use my account for a certain period.
So I updated my wow and started playing, had no clue were to go to because it had been such a long time i played.
So after searching for an hour i came in ironforge and noticed the flying mounts were disabled for some reason.
Stopped playing after that.

So basically I used like 2,5 or less hours of the 7 days...

I have never played the game because I see it a waste to pay that kind of money to play a game. First you have to buy the game then pay to play it. The game should be free and you pay a smaller fee to play it. That way more people will be happy and you will get more players. I guess that in today's world it is all about money.

@tak I first felt that when I was thinking about getting it, I don't want to buy it then pay to play! But after playing various free MMO's , I would always pay a "pay2play" one. The game is so much more quailty because so much more work has been put into it, that's the reason why you have to play: because of how big the development team is, the server resources they require, the customer support and how regurarly they update content.

That's true, nothing can compete with WoW except "Aion" for me.

I played Aion for a while, got to lvl 70 (or whatever the highest level was) and did the small amount of end game and got bored, keep meaning to go back but cant be bothered starting it again.

The problem with WoW is on the high population servers at prime time (4pm-9pm) there is a 4 hour queue to get into the game. Even now at 2pm when people are at school there is still a 1.5hour wait for me to get into the server.
