Hey everyone!
I just discovered this site today, and I figured why not give it a shot? Here's a bit of an intro: I'm Ryan. I'm 18 years old. I'm a freshman at a rather expensive liberal arts college, and I need an income source to continue paying my tuition bills. I'm usually very tech-savvy and I have a basic understanding of how affiliate marketing works. The reason I picked affiliate marketing as my first online money-making venture is mostly due to another user on this forum, Dan Palanchuk. He has no idea who I am, but I've read his posts/his blog and I've been greatly inspired to give it a shot. Now, my question: where do I start? How do I pick an affiliate program? Once I do that, do I set up my own blog or go straight for facebook/adword ads? etc. Basically, I'm just looking for a baseline. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I'm looking forward to making this work. Thank a lot, Ryan |

Affiliate program:
Clickbank - digital product Commision Junction - physical product Amazon - physical product If you want to promote affiliate products through blog (which is free traffic), you have to learn about seo(most of the case). and it takes time. If you want to get immediate result from promoting affiliate products(which is paid traffic), then use facebook or adwords ads. Although, I don't recommend you to use these paid advertising because it may cost $xxx-xxxxx and just because you invest large amount of money in it that doesn't mean you are guaranteed to make a profitable campaign. There are so many ways to get free traffic such as youtube and forum. I hope my post is helpful to you =) |

Here, this info might help (a way of saying I have no idea how to present this in an organized way):
Having a minor interest in affiliate marketing myself (although I haven't actually invested any time into it yet), I did do a good amount of research. While you probably already know about the sites that can help you build a blog (like problogger.net), those don't always apply to affiliate marketing. The person whose info is my go-to source for this stuff would be Glen Allsopp, of Viperchill.com. I found/find his articles immensely helpful, as they are all over 1,000 words long, and deal with things from SEO to blogging. Also, if you do enjoy that blog, I personally (no, I'm not paid to say this ) recommend his ebook, Cloud Living, if you can afford/willing to buy it, which can be found here: Affiliate Marketing and Blogging Guide | Cloud Living, which deals with both affiliate marketing and blogging (and has a template). Hope that helps. |

@Ryan,
Welcome to TBF! Did you find out about us through Dan's website? What college are you attending right now? Dan is definitely the guy you want to talk to. His handle on TBF is @dantheman something. Blogging is free but takes forever. If you're going straight into affiliate marketing, I would put aside some money and use it to learn to drive offers by buying traffic. Dan recommended a good site, Affbuzz.com - Affiliate Marketing News & Blog Aggregator which aggregates blog posts from all the top affiliate marketing websites. Also, Shoemoney did a very nice video about driving offers using Facebook ads. You can find it by just googling "Shoemoney facebook ads". It should be one of the first ones that come up. I'm not there when it comes to knowing what offers to pick but when I started, I looked for ones that was NOT in dating/weight loss because I knew I didn't have enough experience or resources to compete. So I picked something that had a payout of about $3-5. Dan has some really good blog posts about how much he puts in for ads on Facebook. |

You've already had some good responses and Dan is literally, THE man! But if you want any specific help with ideas, then let me know where you are up to now (via twitter/my about me page/on here!) and I will do my best to guide you in the right direction. I know what it's like to start out in affiliate marketing, and it's not easy but it IS do-able and you can make a success out of it

@bond,
thanks a lot! i actually found TBF just through various google searches about affiliate marketing help ! i've corresponded with dan a bit through email, and he's been extremely helpful so far - i'm just trying to get as much advice from different perspectives as i can. affbuzz is now favorited, and i'm slogging through shoemoney's facebook video - very good information, if a bit dry at times. @will_roberts thank a lot man, i really appreciate it .update: i dabbled in my first ever facebook ad campaign. i'm with an auto-accept network called MoreNiche right now (ever heard of them? are they any good?) while i'm waiting on getting accepted into one of the bigger networks (any advice on that?). i'm promoting a teeth whitening brand, and ill attach a picture of where my campaign is at right now - am i doing this the right way? what am i doing wrong? i paused it at the end of today while i figure out what to do, and then im either going to rework some ads or do more research before trying again. i think my biggest hangup here is spending money on the ads. i know, you can't get money without spending some, but it still goes against my nature and it makes me feel rather uneasy. i'm not poor, but i do have to watch my funds at the moment. is it possible to get decent outcomes while on a budget like this? sorry for the ridiculous amount of questions, and thanks for all of your help everyone. i really truly appreciate it. i'm really hoping to make some money off of this, regardless of how much. @bond,
sounds good, i'll try to give one of them a shout out. thanks! i've only done that one campaign, and out of like ~40 unique clicks, no conversions as of now. i know that's completely normal, especially for facebook ads, but that's where my problem is: i need some sort of profit so that i can keep funding the ads. any advice on making some quick cash on the side to find affiliate marketing campaigns? |
