Hi there people
New here, first post so forgive me if I get anything wrong! I am an Assistant Vice Principal at a huge secondary school near London, in the UK. This September I shall be setting up an Enterprise across the curriculum initiative and am hoping to get my school to take part in the Maverick1Million project. What I would really like to know from you guys is what are the barriers to setting up as a teen Entrepreneur ?- as I would like to pre-empt some of these if possible for my students. My background is 12 years in IT sales, 2 years in recruitment and 18 years in Education - my subject is Business and Enterprise I would like to help in any way I can as I do have quite a bit of experience and if there is anything you are not sure of - maybe I know at least where to go, or even the answer! Anyway, great to be here, hope to learn from you and maybe return the favour. ![]() Sarah |

Hi Sarah,
Yeah I'm familiar with the Maverick1Million project. I know Yanik but haven't talked to him recently about what he's planning. What's the project about? From what I have seen, it is that they do not know what is possible. Forget knowing how to get started, if they don't know if something is possible, they won't even try. Showing that is the most important thing. |

Agreed with Jack. I know most people in my school haven't ever even thought of making money through business, their all just going for the traditional paper round. First, open them up too what's possible, show that the sky really is the limit. Then send them in the right direction, get them researching, reading, absorbing everything about business and entrepreneurship (this is a great place too learn, if I might add!).
Would love too have something like this in my school! Hope it goes well, good luck. |

Hi Sarah,
Most teens I find (once they're aware of enterprise) is finding the right idea for them, getting together the resources and sticking with it. I wrote this 7-part guide for teen entrepreneurs here you might like: Teen Business Strategy Guide I'm based in Portsmouth, and I'm working in London during the summer, staying with my auntie near King Avenue School (is that the one?). If you've got some ideas you'd like to run past someone in person, I'm happy to meetup? Another person you should get in touch with (if you haven't already come across him) is Geoff Riley. Very friendly guy, Economics/Business Teacher at Eton and founder of Tutor2u. As well as the NEA? National Enterprise Academy? Ed |
